Baking for fun grew into a dream for me when I came to a cross road in my college career. When the question was raised “What do you love to do?”, two things came to mind; Art and Baking. I’d never put two and two together or even noticed it was called the Culinary Arts for a reason. Realizing I could combine my two loves started a fire in me that I can’t quite explain. Once that fire was lit, no one could stop me.

I began Culinary School at Le Cordon Bleu Los Angeles in 2014. It wasn’t long before life took charge and changed my plans. I headed back home to Corpus Christi, Texas after only 12 short weeks of Culinary Training. I’d only learned how to Julianne potatoes and make stock, I wasn’t ready to throw in my beautifully stained towel. Disappointed but headstrong, I began the culinary program at Del Mar College.

I started looking for my way into the Culinary community and took every opportunity I could to put my foot in the door. I was a line cook, prep cook and catering cook before I got my hands into flour and sugar. I felt I needed to pay my dues and prove myself.

Eventually, scrubbing flat tops and chopping romaine lead me to get my chance as a baker. I remember that first 5am morning like it was yesterday. I was where I was meant to be.

I got my next big break being offered the Pastry Chef position at 8TE Modern American. Owner, Megan Lee, gave me the freedom to create and learn, the sky was the limit, and it allowed me to find my strengths as a baker, pastry chef, and artist.

Through social media, friends and family took notice of my work at 8TE quickly. Suddenly my inbox was filled with requests for my decorated sugar cookies, cakes and cheesecakes.

I realized I had something here. Something I could begin to pursue on my own. With the support of many, I decided to start Home Sweet Home Bakery, the name and concept of which came to me back in Los Angeles.Home Sweet Home Bakery started in August 2016 and is still currently in my commercial rental kitchen, serving individuals in the Corpus Christi area as well as many restaurants, 8TE included.

It has been a fast paced journey and I can’t wait to continue to reveal that original concept that came to me when I first started.

Thank you for letting me share my love of baking and art with all of you.
